CRITICAL EVALUATION

The strengths of the "Sword Clock" is use the warm colors, it evoke feelings of happiness, optimism and energy. The main design is the "Sword", it implying many different things. First, as every sword has two blades like every sword has two fronts, so it implying everything has two aspects. So the "Sword Clock" implying the consumer work and family more focused on striking a balance between work and family. Second, in the Chinese the sound of "Sword Clock" and "The Sword in the Stone" are same, so it also can attract Chinese generation X consumer. Last, "The Sword in the Stone" is also known as Excalibur (King of Sword), then "Sword Clock" also can mean King of time. However the weakness for “Sword Clock” is too simple, no small detail. Another way the color is strengths but it also is weaknesses. The colors are all really close, it to monotonous.

 

The opportunity for the clock is fashion trend. The design is beautiful contemporary design will appeal to the generation X consumer, because it the clock is shiny, sassy and splendiferous. The sword design is very popular. In the many novels or movies often use the sword to be the theme. In the middle Ages, the sword was often used as a symbol of the word of God. The names given too many swords in mythology, literature, and history reflected the high prestige of the weapon and the wealth of the owner.

 

In the modern, many people are rely on mobile phone or watch, it threats to the clock. This also is a problem, so the clock design must look fashion to attract attention.

PERSUASIVE TEXT

This persuasive text will present the design detail of the Sword Clock for your consideration. The factors to be considered are: materials, colors, design and appeal to generation X consumers.

The Sword Clock is made of timber, glass and aluminum which are readily available. The base is glass. The face has two parts which are timber and aluminum. The timber section is round, looking like the twinkle and shows three and nine in roman numerals. The aluminum section sits on the top of the timber section and is in the shape of the sword and shows twelve and six in roman numerals. The hands are all aluminum, including the hour hand, the minute hand and the second hand. Another small part is bass washer, alloy steel hex nut and alloy steel open nut.
    
The clock's main colors are yellow, red, amber and orange. The timber section is painted yellow. The colors of the aluminum sword are red, amber and orange. The color of the hour hand and the minute hand is black but the second hand is red. These warm colors evoke feelings of happiness, optimism and energy, so when people visit, the home will seem inviting and friendly. The generation X consumer is more focus on the home.

The simplicity of the design will make this clock easy and therefore cheaper to manufacture. As well the design complies with the Australian Drawing Standards (AS 1100) so is ready to use in manufacturing processes. The main design is the "Sword". The generation X consumer has entered the prime earning potential of their careers. There are quite affluent so therefore the purchase of a luxury item like the Sword Clock would appeal them. This beautiful contemporary design will appeal to the generation X consumer, because it the clock is shiny, sassy and splendiferous.
