DTB101_2020se1: INTERIOR STUDIO 1
Project name: Relax piano bookshelf campus pod.
Concept Statement
This campus pod is for an ephemeral personal dwelling built on the QUT Garden’s Point Campus during the exam, the concept is to create a place to relax. Based on past personal experiences, the memory space is a piano room. Therefore, the appearance of this design is arranged like a piano keyboard, and the wall at the outside only selects to use the white keys on a piano keyboard. The black keys on a piano keyboard are the hollow space, and the wall at the inside is made by the dark brown timber, so when people look at this design, they still can clearly feel that it is a piano keyboard. However, for individuals, although piano music is relaxing, the practice required for piano is often boring. The material of the wall is chosen to use the metal, which can knock out music like a glockenspiel. Then the relaxing elements of this piano room are the large bookshelf and the long low table on the wall. When lying in a small space under a low table makes me feel calm and relaxed without being disturbed. Consequently, when viewed from the other direction, the wavy texture and brown timber are used to make this design also look like a big bookshelf. These two inverted "L" shaped walls were face to face, and the large piano wall is covered the small bookshelf wall to create a narrow rectangular space. This design creates a sense of closure, the hollow piano wall can still breathable. The surrounding environment of this design will be in a street, and people inside can look at a crowded street outside through the gap in the piano wall to coping with stress. Because it is a temporary space, there is no chair to let people sit for a long time.
