Model Making

CONCEPT STATEMENT

This studio apartment was designed for Brisbane-based fashion designer Andrez Pytel. This apartment has two levels, the first level includes the entry area, chilling (living) area, cooking area, eating area, clearing area (toileting), and creating area. These areas are relatively busy. The kitchen and toilet are both near to the creating area so that the user can focus on creating without leaving too far to solve physiological needs. Then the second level includes the sleeping area, cleaning area (bathing/washing), and special space. These areas are relatively relaxed. There is a long bench in the special area, and in front of the long bench is a glass railing. When sitting on the long bench, the front view is with a broad vision. People can also see the first lever when they stand up. This area can sit down and think about creative ideas or be in a daze or sit and chat with friends. Furthermore, this apartment is an open space, and there are only two doors inside, one is the cleaning space, one is the clearing space, and the others are open.

The main design of this apartment was inspired by artist Allan Wexler. The most impressive part of Allan Wexler’s artwork is the "chairs". He uses the chair as an object of daily life to explore the other side of function to create very simply but with complex implications works. So, this apartment has many places to hide the chairs. The first place to hide chairs is the creative area. It can see that there is a table, shelf, and cabinet in the creative area. Two chairs are inlaid under the cabinets, and there is a hole in the chair that can be pulled out to the table area to start creating. In addition, there is the same design outside the cleaning area (behind the special area) on the second level. When the designer suddenly thinks of any inspiration in the special area, he can quickly record it. The other place where the chairs are hidden in the cooking and eating area. There is a large cabinet behind the kitchen, and there are 4 chairs inlaid under this cabinet, which can be pulled out to the dining table for dinner. Moreover, the bathtub also has a chair design, and the shelf at the end of the bed, it can be removed as a chair or stacked into a shelf. Another design inspired by artist Allan Wexler is the dining table design. This dining table is stuck between the cooking area and the chilling area. There is also has a glass window on the wall in the middle to let people can see the state of others cooking. The tabletop of the dining table and the cooking area is made of marble, and the cabinet below is made of plywood. The outer wall is made of concrete and the inner wall is gypsum board wrapped with wood framing. Finally, the floor is select to use the hardwood.
