2.0 - Introduction

ModBox is a modified form of boxing that focuses on increasing users technical, social skills and fitness abilities. 

At designiverse we plan on designing products in which are new-to-the-world accessories to enhance participant experience of training activities. The products will be aimed at all users within the community sports environment, age ranging from 10 to 60.

2.1 - Design Direction  

Designiverse design direction is to create a device/product that focuses on bringing back a form of competition within keeping of MobBox’s values of not causing harm to the user/competitor.

 

We are looking at creating an interactive product that involves a less aggressive form of competition that tests the users reaction speed and accuracy in a soothing and entertaining environment.

2.2 - Design Aim & Criteria 

We will achieve our design direction by keeping with our design aims and criteria; 

  • User adaptability from ages 10 to 60 regarding;

    • Fit

    • Interaction

    • Skill Level

  • Continual Safety of users and trainers 

  • Training activities which center around the requirement of fun

    • Enjoyable exercises

    • Games

  • Provide awareness of energy output or fitness level (physical fitness & general physical literacy)

  • Learning of good sport-specific skills and techniques

  • Ease of maintenance and cleaning of products

  • The device could be a stand-alone interactive device or  ‘connected as a system’

  • Respond to gestural and tangible interactions

  • Include tangible interactions including;

    • Help users track their progress, 

    • Support their health/wellbeing habits, and 

    • Facilitate remote interaction with their coach/peers or competitors 

  • Be portable, easy to store and easy to transport locally and internationally

  • The device could be;

    • Worn by the athlete during the sports activity

    • Interacted with by the athlete during the sports activity with a physical connection

    • Interacted with by the athlete during the sports activity without a physical connection

  • Easy to adapt to PCYC multi-use environment (or School Sports Hall)

  • Promote person’s self-reliance of training needs

  • Be consistent with current and emerging market trends of interactive-digital and mobile products for personal use - by utilising applications for scoring or recording of data

  • Manufacturable with focus on durable materials and their cost effectiveness

2.3 - Timeline

The project is split into three stages they are;

 

  • The Initial Concept Design Presentation 06/09/2019

    • Presentation of 16 product concepts

    • Presentation of Design Proposal (Brief)

  • The Design Freeze Presentation 27/09/2019

    • Presentation of 2 product concepts including;

      • Design brief 

      • Interactive working model 

  • Final Design Presentation 25/10/2019

    • Presentation of final concepts including;

      • Interactive working model 

      • Product design specification report 

      • A2 poster illustrations 

      • Design fiction video

      • 15min client pitch 

      • Blog posts 

 

2.4 - Budget

There is no current budget outlined by the client, however its a community based program that relies on mostly government funding or grants so it is important for the product to be financially viable.
