What is interaction?

• a reciprocal action or influence (Merriam Webster Dictionary)

• causal relationships between the human and the computer (HCI)

• the interaction between a user and a product often involves elements like aesthetics, motion, sound, space, and many more (Interaction Design Foundation)

• interaction-as-dialogue – involves ‘mapping’ and ‘feedback’ as a way of machine understanding human action and vice versa (Don Norman)

Action - Reaction (behaviour):

Example 1 (Scooter):

Action- feet push on the ground

Reaction- move, sound

Example 2 (Pen):

Action- press the pen

Reaction- refill come out, sound

Example 3 (Go Card):

Action- tap Go Card

Reaction- deducting money, sound

Example 4 (Whistle):

Action- blow the whistle

Reaction- sound

Example 5 (Bottle):

Action- twist the lid of the bottle 

Reaction- friction, open the lid, sound

Input - Output (Tech):

Example 1 (Water Tap):

Input- twist to open the tap water

Output- water coming out, sound

Example 2 (Gas stove):

Input- twist to turn on the Gas stove

Output- heat, sound

Example 3 (Fan):

Input- Press the power button to turn on the fan

Output- wind, sound

Example 4 (Keyboard):

Input- Press the keyboard

Output- Appear text on the screen, sound

Example 5 (Laptop):

Input- Press the power button to turn on the laptop

Output- light, sound

Feedback – Attention - Status:

Example: Taiwan TATUNG (Tatung electric cooker, steam cooker, steaming stew pot )
