ID6 is about the Design of Interactive Products:

• methods for designing dynamic interactions

• UX and people engagement with tech for health goals

• object behaviour: action-reaction & input-output

• learning by making: tangible interactions

• proof-of-concept prototyping

• designing with electronics specs in mind

Design Project (Interactive gear for MODBOX):

MODBOX = Modified Boxing

• Interactive glove

• Minimal contact / light touch

• Fitness

• Fun

COMMUNITY PRACTICE

• Multipurpose community hall for sports

• Young people at risk

IMPLEMENTED

• Canberra Erindale Program

• PCYC NSW • Indian Schools

Design Challenge:

To design interactive gear suitable for MODBOX practice and for users in the age bracket of 14-22yo. Design teams can choose one of these two options:

ï‚· OPTION A: a system to support those aspects of MODBOX in which participants deliver impacts to each other (e.g. through refinements to gloves, protective vests, or automated scoring technology; or

ï‚· OPTION B: new-to-the-world accessories to enhance participant experience of training activities (e.g. ‘smart’ punching bags / floor mats, augmented fitness games, or tracking of training progress).

System or accessories design will comprise 2 or 3 (connected) objects per team. These design solutions should be suitable for implementation in a community sports environment (community or multipurpose hall) and have a strong focus on increasing participant safety and/or enjoyment. Consideration should be given to the fact within the modified boxing community there is an age range of ~10-60 years. This means your design need to be adaptable for users of a broader age bracket.
